The Dirtbombs/The Love Supremes
Mick Collins is not going to cover a song unless he can mess with it in an inspired way, and the Dirtbombs’ take on “No Expectations” turns it into the late-era British Invasion medley you didn’t realize you needed. Phast Phreddie’s reworking of “Satanic Majesty’s” lead-off cut isn’t quite as visionary, but it’s smart, fun, and suggests he and his collaborators were on better drugs than Mick ‘n’ Keef. Solid entertainment on both sides.
